One transfer which looks likely is that of Lucas Neill from Blackburn as cover across the defence, in particular for Steve Finnan at right back.
The David Villa rumours have been quashed by Rafa Benitez, as has Peter Crouch to Newcastle. Javier Mascherano continues to be linked though, Alonso is allegedly wanted by Athletico Madrid (not that he’ll go).
