Loan Watch: Darren Potter

Darren Potter’s time at Wolves looks set to become ‘Sold Watch’ rather than the usual Loan Watch here. It is reported the academy graduate will sign permanently for the Midlands club after Liverpool agreed a £200,000 fee.

The midfielder was on target tonight for Wolves in their 2-0 FA Cup third round replay defeat of Oldham. Potter strook an impressive strike from 20 yards for the opener.

The 22 year old attacking midfielder has been with Liverpool since age seven but now feels the time is right to move on with his career after enjoying his time at Molineux. “I have no regrets walking away from Anfield. Some people might say, ‘You’ll miss it’ but to tell you the truth I won’t miss it. I had my chance there and it didn’t really work out for me.

“I enjoyed every single minute of it but I’ll be 23 this year and I really need to move my career on. I want to be part of what the gaffer (Mick McCarthy) is doing here.”

“I’m delighted. I feel as though things are going well for me now – I’m in the team week in, week out. I’m just looking forward now to being part of this group of players for the next two or three years or however long it is. There is only one place we want to go and that is up.”

The deal is expected to go through this week. Potter made 17 appearances for the Reds and previously spent time on loan at Southampton.
