Take it with a pinch of salt

There’s various stories currently flying around about what happened in the Algarve, they all seem pretty astonishing and reports of Bellamy beating Riise with a golf club – although potentially catastrophic – seem like typical media fabrication. Particularly considering the source of several articles and reports.

A statement released on Sunday quoted manager Rafa Benitez:

“Despite reports to the contrary, the spirit amongst the lads is very good with everyone looking forward to the game against Barcelona on Wednesday.

The whole thing is no doubt a ploy to unsettle the side before the crucial Champions League match in Barcelona on Wednesday night. We believe fans should dismiss the talks, particularly involving the one involving Dudek, Fowler and Pennant.

    Maybe someone at the barca camp had a word with the reporter’s at the record, let’s stir a bit of unrest like we are experiencing, i cant see Robbie F or Craig B causing any trouble in light of their past and putting their job’s on the line, but what must the sun newspaper think when a waiter from portugal know’s how low they can get.

    The question of whether or not Craig Bellamy (or anyone else) “beat” someone with a golf club is answered quickly enough with a glance at whether the person can still walk. If everyone on the team walked off the plane, its safe to say that a golf club either wasn’t swung or missed.
    Its fair to assume that a group of young men letting off steam can get rowdy, or more, certainly beyond what the club expects of them. But whatever did or did not happen in this case, the specific allegations I have read seem extremely fishy.
