Line-up vs Chelsea: Alonso starts

Xabi Alonso will make his first start for Liverpool tonight since picking up a metatarsal injury in October.
The Spaniard joins Momo Sissoko and Lucas in the centre of the Reds’ midfield for tonight’s Carling Cup quarter-final clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

In total, there are nine changes to the starting line-up from the side that began against Manchester United in the Premier League at the weekend. Jamie Carragher, partnered by youngster Jack Hobbs in central defence will captain the side in Steven Gerrard‘s (ill) absence.

Liverpool: Itandje, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Hobbs, Carragher, Alonso, Lucas, Sissoko, Babel, Voronin, Crouch. Subs: Martin, Hyypia, Riise, El Zhar, Benayoun.

The match kicks off at 7.45pm and is live on Sky Sports in the UK. The draw for the Carling Cup semi-finals will be made at 10pm, also live on Sky Sports.
