Inter Watch: First league defeat

Liverpool’s Champions League opponents Inter Milan suffered their first League defeat of season, losing 1-0 at Napoli on Sunday – despite the defeat they remain 12 points clear at the top of Serie A.

And Inter suffered another defensive blow ahead of the return leg – which takes place in the San Siro a week on Wednesday opposed to this week like the rest of the competition – when Christian Chivu suffered an injury. Inter president Massimo Moratti said “We hope Chivu can make it in time for Liverpool. Unfortunately the injuries are all to players who play in the same role, so we’ll have to be very careful and those who play in these upcoming matches will have to be in form.”

Inter are already without fellow centre backs Marco Materazzi after his dismissal in the first leg and Ivan Cordoba who damaged cruciate knee ligament also at Anfield. And with first choice centre back Walter Samuel being out for the rest of the since also suffering cruciate knee ligaments back in December, Inter face a real defensive headache for the must-win match with Liverpool.

Elsewhere in Serie A this weekend, former Reds midfielder Momo Sissoko scored his first goal for Juventus since signing for them from Liverpool in the January transfer window. The Mali international scored an impressive overhead kick in their 3-2 defeat to Fiorentina.
