Differing reports on Alonso’s future

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is today being quoted as saying he wishes to remain at Anfield, and expressed his desire to add a Premier League medal to his collection after winning Euro 2008 with his country this summer.

But The Mirror claims his proposed move to Juventus will be completed within 24 hours.

Alonso though said “I am very happy with Liverpool, the city, the people and they treat me very well. There are so many rumours and I prefer not to think about my future.

“I have always said that Anfield has been and will be one of the best stadiums in the world. The atmosphere is unique and the fans support you like no other stadium in the world. It is incredible.”

“It’s great to be a European champion with my club and with my country, but now I would like a league medal. It’s the one thing missing. I would love to win The Premier League.”

“The Premier League is so attractive and there are so many good teams. It is difficult to win it and that has been shown by Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal becoming champions.”

Diego CavalieriMeanwhile, goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri (right) is on Merseyside to discuss a £3m from Brazilian side Palmeiras, he will become the Reds back-up goalkeeper with Scott Carson linked to another loan move, this time to Stoke City, and Charles Itandje expected to join Galatasaray.

The Gareth Barry saga rumbles on with most reports suggesting Villa will finally accept £15m plus Steve Finnan. While Peter Crouch is expected to sign for Portsmouth this week after his fee was agreed over the weekend.
