Rafa says signings are imminent

Rafael Benitez has revealed that he expects to unveil two more signings in the near future.

The summer so far has seen the signings of Philipp Degan and Diego Cavalieri, who were handed debuts against Tranmere in Saturday’s pre-season friendly, as well as Andrea Dossena.

With Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry and Tottenham‘s Robbie Keane hotly tipped for summer moves to Anfield, Benitez confirmed this afternoon, “We are still working hard to bring in two more players. I would hope that there would be some progress next week or very soon.”

However, reports that suggest Juventus have ceased their interest in the Reds’ Spanish international Xabi Alonso which could jeopardize Benitez’s transfer kitty for the players he wants to bring in this summer.

Benitez raised almost £14m with the sales of Peter Crouch and Danny Guthrie while Scott Carson and Steve Finnan were both absent from the squad which faced Tranmere – both are expected to leave in the near future, with Finnan as part of the Gareth Barry deal and Carson possibly on loan to Stoke.

Elsewhere, Jermaine Pennant could depart, with reports claiming a move to Blackburn, and therefore add to the funds this summer.
