Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was the unanimous choice for the December 2008 Player of the Month, taking 44% of the votes in the This Is Anfield forums.

Gerrard scored five goals in December, including two against Hull to save a draw and two in the impressive win at Newcastle.

Somewhat surprisingly, full back Emiliano Insua came in second place with 20% of the votes after impressing against Blackburn, Arsenal, Bolton and Newcastle. He has definitely staked a claim to remain in the left back position when Fabio Aurelio returns to fitness, and is currently keeping expensive summer signing Andrea Dossena out the team.

Third was midfielder Xabi Alonso as he continues his incredible season and is arguably our most consistent performer so far this season. Robbie Keane, who scored three goals in two matches over the festive period, was fourth.
