City ready to counter

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes says his side are hoping to take advantage of some desperate attacking from Liverpool when the two teams meet at Anfield this Sunday.

The Reds are currently five points behind league leaders Manchester United and could fall eight points behind Alex Ferguson’s men if United beat Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

So Sunday’s game is a must-win match for Rafa Benitez’s men, if they are to maintain their persuit of the Premier League title and keep up the pressure on United.

But Hughes knows the Reds will be going all out looking for all three points and the Welshman says his side will be ready for them.

He said, “Liverpool are making a real challenge for the (Barclays) Premier League and want to be in the shake-up at the end of the season. We would like to think that at times they would over-commit and we would be able to take advantage of that.”

Liverpool vs Manchester City kicks off at Anfield at 3pm on Sunday, 22nd February.
