Stevie G the unanimous vote for Player of Month

The March vote for the TIA Player of the Month was a pretty unanimous choice, with captain Steven Gerrard the clear winner with 73% of the votes.

Gerrard lead the side to four consecutive wins in the calendar month, including, of course, those memorable demolitions of Real Madrid and Man United.

After securing his first league hat-trick for the club in the emphatic win over Aston Villa, there could only be one winner of March’s accolade. Surely he will also win the award for the Premier League and quite possibly the Player of the Year award if this form continues.

The Reds began March with the 2-0 win over Sunderland, then destroyed Real 4-0 at Anfield with Gerrard scoring twice, next was the memorable destruction of United at Old Trafford – Gerrard grabbing one from the spot – then the Villa match. So six goals for the captain and the partnership with Torres back to it’s very, very best.

It’s been an incredible turnaround from the start of March to the end of the month. Title hopes were pretty much ended with the defeat at Middlesbrough at the end of February but now a month later the race is back alive, with the trip to Fulham next Saturday providing an opportunity for Liverpool to move back to the top of the League, albeit having played twice more than United.

Other notable performers during March were full back Fabio Aurelio, who has performed admirably at left back and scored the third at Old Trafford, and Javier Mascherano, who has rekindled the form of last season just at the right time.

Steven Gerrard is our captain, Steven Gerrard is a Red, Steven Gerrard plays for Liverpool, he’s a scouser born and bred.”
