Kuyt enjoying new role

Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt says he is enjoying the role he plays in Rafa Benitez’s team, even though it is different to the one he was in when he first arrived at the club.

The Dutch international signed from Feyenoord in the summer of 2005 as a striker, but Benitez has found playing him in a wider, right position brings the best out of him.

Kuyt says, “I think my role in this team is different to my first season at the club. Now I play mostly on the right and I really enjoy it. I still get my chances to score and set up goals for my teammates.”

Kuyt scored Liverpoool’s second in a 2-0 victory over West Brom on Sunday, his 15th of the season and personal best since arriving on Merseyside.

Despite being pipped to the Premier League title by Manchester United, Kuyt revealed it has been a positive season for him.

He continued, “I have really enjoyed the season on a personal level and I’m glad I could be important for the team and score goals and give assists.”
