A pity Gerrard couldn't be credited with a brace, both spectacular shots.

I'd forgotten Kewell was part of our squad at Istanbul, getting selected ahead of Hamann for those who think the Reds are all about defence! What delightful runs our #7 made the whole game, notably to create Pongolle's equalizer.

This game showcases the role played by each and every player. Our goals didn't come from a striker but from midfielders, Pongolle, Mellor then Captain Fantastic. Despite this, the clear role played by Baros is for all and sundry to see and appreciate. Carra's surging run forward for #3 is also reminiscent of such play last season. He might not score them often but we all dream of a team of committed Carras, don't we?

Thanks Mellor, Kewell, Alonso and Sinama-Pongolle. What a performance. It's hard to believe that Rafa hadn't stayed long with this squad, most inherited from Houllier, yet he turned a largely average squad into CL winners.

If being Red isn't great I wonder what is. Great commentary too from Andy Gray.

We're the Reds and no one else ever will!
