Rafa Benitez says he is hopeful that Martin Skrtel, Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger will all be fit in time for this Sunday’s Premier League opener at Tottenham.
The Reds looked to face a defensive injury crisis earlier in the week after Agger was forced out of Saturday’s pre-season friendly at home to Atletico Madrid and Carragher was taken off injured early on in the 2-1 defeat.
Skrtel, who was forced to return to England after picking up a knock during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Thailand in Bangkok last month, also looked unlikely.
But Benitez is now confident he will have at least two of the three central defenders available to face Spurs at White Hart Lane.
He said, “Skrtel trained yesterday and hopefully he’ll be fit. Carragher has been working with the physios today and we think he’ll be available. Agger is also working with the physios but it will be more difficult for him.”
