Liverpool Reserves’ season set for kick-off

Liverpool Reserves get their league season underway this evening when they visit Blackburn Rovers Reserves at Leigh Sports Village.

The summer saw a new face amongst the Reserve set-up with Shrewsbury Town assistant boss John McMahon replacing Gary Ablett as coach.

And with some big clashes coming up including Manchester United on 17th September and Manchester City on the 29th, McMahon is excited to see the Reserves’ season get underway.

He told the club’s official web site, “I am looking forward to the game. We’ve had what seems like a long pre-season with plenty of games, but there’s nothing like actually getting into competitive matches.

“The results in pre-season have been okay, but sometimes that masks the performance and the standards we are looking for.

“I think some of the performances could have been better and we feel we can do better.

“We don’t know what sort of team Blackburn will field. I think at this stage of the season most teams will be strong and littered with fringe players from the first team that need games.

“I think we will include several fringe first-team players who need games in our squad as well. They will need some football to keep their fitness levels up.”

Blackburn Rovers Reserves vs Liverpool Reserves kicks off at 7pm tonight.
