Emiliano Insua made his full debut for his county last night as Argentina beat Peru 2-1 in dramatic style in Bolivia.

The Liverpool left-back was rewarded for an impressive start to the season with the Reds with an international call-up and made his debut in the starting line-up, joining club teammate Javier Mascherano, who captained the Argentines.

Having taken the lead, Diego Maradona’s side conceded in the last minute but Martin Palermo tapped home the winner deep in injury time. The result means Argentina could still qualify automatically for next year’s World Cup in South Africa and they next meet Uruguay on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile Daniel Agger, who is yet to kick a football for the Reds this season due to a back injury played the full 90 minutes as Denmark sealed their World Cup qualification with a 1-0 victory over Sweden.

Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson both started in England’s 1-0 defeat to Andriy Voronin’s Ukraine, Voronin was an unused sub. Gerrard picked up a first half injury and was substituted at half-time, he remains with the England squad while his groin injury is assessed ahead of Wednesday’s qualifier against Belarus.

Spain beat Armeina 2-1 to keep up their 100% record in World Cup qualification with Pepe Reina playing in goal for the Spanish. Fernando Torres played most of the second half.

Martin Skrtel played in Slovakia’s 2-0 defeat to Slovein, but could still yet qualify for the World Cup.

Yossi Benayoun captain Israel to a 3-1 victory over Moldova, whilst Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel made appearances in Holland’s 0-0 draw in Australia.
