Actually Sunday's game was the most defensive from the team this season. Both fullbacks stayed back all game.

Daniel K, this just shows how unpredictable the PL actually is, a true indicator of club strength overall. A look at the league table shows Chelsea with just two more wins than us, the current difference in the standings, six. Two draws by Chelsea and two wins from us would actually see us just two behind. One loss and a draw from them would see us ahead. This is what critics of LFC and RB miss. Will Chelsea win all their fixtures? Of course not. We'll "lose" at Sunderland and win against Man U - just a normal day in the unpredictable PL.

I'm encouraged that we're going all out for a win (while looking like actually getting a win!). This is in clear contrast with last season when we didn't have the likes of GJ and a fully fit Agger to provide penetrative options. This policy can cost us, e.g. against OL, but it can also yield rich results e.g. Sunday's game. All these make me wonder if people ever read our results or league placing. We win quite a bit, score quite a lot, and the reason they harp on our losses is because they aren't many to start with.

The good thing is, whether anyone wishes or not, it's only a game at a time. We return to London for Arsenal (Carling Cup), and then Fulham. I suspect the "kids are alright" - The Who.

Imagine if they'd beaten Sunderland - they'd be only 1 point behind Man UTD. The trick is getting max points out of the upcoming games. If they did that through December things will be very different heading into the new year. I think it is doable - but it will take luck as well.

Craig, this is one of the best and most comprehensive match reports yet seen! Congrats for the coverage and your glee is evident throughout. I for one am glad I was proved wrong regarding Masche playing alongside Lucas. How glad I am to be so proved.

All of a sudden there is the debate on our squad, another area I'm always willing to be disproved about. How many "fringe" players shone yesterday? Lucas a.k.a. Scapegoat, Aurelio (lightweight), Benayoun (another lightweight, supposedly not up to Anfield standards)and N'gog (alias Eggnog). Another established player, Carra, proved he's never heard of the term wash-out. The Dagger just keeps growing from strength to strength.

While not excusing Masche's lunge at VDS, it was noticeable that both he and his fellow "2" (Lucas) had actually committed to chase after the ball and just put MUFC's keeper under more pressure!

Yesterday's performance smacks of last season's fixture at Anfield, with Riera (debut game) and Keane harassing the Devils to no end and causing crucial mistakes to be made that led (especially) to our first goal.

It's also not lost on me that much-maligned Lucas has now had two consecutive excellent games against MUFC, proving solid in both.

I agree that we're not out of the deep end yet but surely this outcome will send shock waves to all who dare write us off - eat that journos!

Thanks Rafa, thanks coaching staff, thanks Reds, thanks fans. Siempre es posible and may we never, ever walk alone (ever)!
