Rafa’s post-match reaction

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has chosen to focus on the positives this evening despite the Reds exiting the Champions League.

The Reds went out of the competition after Fiorentina’s 1-0 victory over Lyon in Italy, despite beating Hungarian side Debrecen 1-0 in Budapest.

Despite the disappointing news, Benitez is happy with the win and is adamant his side will be back playing Champions League football next season by finishing in the top four in the Premier League.

He said, “We had to do our job today. Our job was to win and we won but we couldn’t control the other game.

“To win today was the only thing we could do and we played well, with four or five clear chances.

“The main thing is to be ready for the next match, we have an important game on Sunday.”

“I am 100 per cent sure we will finish in the top four. The team will play well when all the players are available so I am sure we will finish in the top four.”

    tonight we were terrible,how rafa can say we played well is staggering!to many players who will run all day but with limited talent.aquilani must get more time on the pitch,benayuon if fit must play,innsua is not good enough after showing much promise,babel must go now,we need more strength 1-11 and in the squad.come on rafa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It’s the most weak adn boring LFC of the last 20 yrs…
    I’m feeling so frustrated but We have to get behind the team and our guys because They’ll never walk alone.

    Played well is bit much. In two games Fiorentina scored 9 goals against Debreceni and Lyon in one 5 goals, while we scored only paltry 2. If Aquilani is not match fit, why not play him last 20-30 min, instead of last 2? Never coached, but can’t see how can you be match fit from the bench.
    I really don’t know what to think or where is this Liverpool team heading.
    Only difference between us and titanic is titanic was going forward before sinking.
    Feel sorry for Gerrard wasting his career.
    I know its doom and gloom but its hard to see any light in this bloody long tunnel.

    Played well is bit much. In two games Fiorentina scored 9 goals against Debreceni and Lyon in one 5 goals, while we scored only paltry 2. If Aquilani is not match fit, why not play him last 20-30 min, instead of last 2? Never coached, but can’t see how can you be match fit from the bench.

    The writing was on the wall already same as last season. Rafa relies on everyone else to do him favours to go through typical! As I recall correctly, last season he relied on Sunderland and many other teams to beat Manu so Liverpool could get a chance at winning the league…end result failed! This time round waiting on Lyon to same end result…. failed.

    I know that there are a lot of people out there ready to criticise me…feel free only this does not hide the fact that Rafa with his stubborn attitude used to get us nowhere we are doing down the toilet like a plane spinning out of control.

    Rafa knew we did not have a proven striker save Torres but he still did not do anything about it. He sold Arbeloa fine but was that a priority? To get Johnson? (no disrespect to the man) but did we really need a right back as much as we needed a striker who can deliver?

    I’ve supported Rafa through thick & thin but now call me what you like but the man knows he won’t loose his job cause the owners would not pay that much fire him.

    So he can just fool around and talk rubbish all the time and laugh all the way to the bank.

    You Liverpool fans who buy season tickets & pay your hard earned money to follow Liverpool wherever they go what are you getting out of it?

    And it’s so easy to blame the owners I know they can be no good but I doubt Sunderland got a better squad than us.

    Liverpool got a reservoir of young talented players but Rafa still throws money at below par players.

    Don’t be surprised if Torres, Agger, Macherano, Benayoun asks to leave when they could be playing champions league football elsewhere.

    We’ve backed Rafa all the way now it’s time to change. We want results not excuses or defiant comments that gets us nowhere!!!!!

    every season relying on other teams. the decent players gerard, masch, reina, agger, torres, johnson, yossi deserve better so do the fans. its the same story no gerard no torres no LIFErpool.ask yourselfs guys, is insua as good as cole, clichy,evra? Ngog/voronin as good as anelka,berbertov, etc NO! So why are they playing for the most succesful club in england? is kuyt a match winner? I would have taken a defeat against united but 2-4 points behind than this awful position we are in! you cant win the prem by dec but you can certainly lose it!! ynwa
