Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has thanked fans for their patience in the club’s recent run of bad form, even quoting from “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in his pre-match press conference.

Ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with Lyon in France, Benitez told press that he and the players have been working hard to turn things around after a sixth defeat in seven games at the weekend against Fulham.

The Reds’ bad form has been met by much criticism from the media and some supporters. However Benitez acknowledged the supporters who are following the Liverpool way and showing their support.

He said, “Our fans are very clever. Sometimes you have bad moments, but they know we are working very hard to try and change things.

“We will try to win and we know that when you walk through a storm, hold your head up high – and we will try to hold our heads up high.”

Lyon vs Liverpool gets underway at 7.45pm. Stay tuned to This Is Anfield throughout the day for team news and previews.

His sense of humour (Abraham Rajadurai) is making me laugh. Not because I find it funny, it’s because he insinuated that Rafa has no sense of importance (Substituting Kuyt, Benayoun and Torres) and he gave the reason that Rafa wanted to save them for the game against Lyon. Hilarious. True, but not the way he phrased it. Rafa wouldn’t qualify for a waiter…
