Reds set to price Barcelona out of Mascherano move

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is so keen to hold on to Argentinean international captain Javier Mascherano that he will demand a transfer fee in excess of £40million for the midfielder.

Barcelona have once again been reported to be interested in signing Mascherano with the new transfer window fast approaching.

But Benitez is ready to reject any approaches from the Catalan giants unless the price is right.

However, reports over the last few months have suggested that Mascherano is discontent with life on Merseyside and could push Rafa to accept a bid in the same way that saw Xabi Alonso leave for Real Madrid in August.

After a successful loan spell at Anfield in 2007, Liverpool signed Mascherano on a permanent basis in a deal worth a reported £18.6million that included Mascherano’s wages for a four year deal.

Benitez, however, is keen to offer Mascherano a new contract at the club, following the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger.

    none of that.it’s that his wife is making his life miserable because she can’t adapt to the way of lifestyle in england.which is st*pid of course.football players have limited time in their job, to take this kind of staff serious.but it happens.
    What i am affraid is, that the money we will receive from the deal, won’t get used to bring in a good repacement.BRING US VELOSSO!!!

    I think if Mascherano forces a move like Alonso did there is nothing Rafa can do. Hopefully it is all BS and he stays. But I agree with telidaros, I would be worried that the money we received for him won’t go back into the transfer kitty. I also heard it was because his wife can’t get use to the lifestyle in England and that she also can’t get a proper visa. Don’t know if the visa part it ture just what I read.

    Mascherano should stay ,we need player who love over club.. Mascherano is good player and give 110 % in every match…. We did’t need 40 M or 4000000 M we need Mascherano

    If he doesn’t want to stay, let him leave if the price is right. with the 40M we should try to get Villa and Silva. Barca should not have a problem paying, the paid 25M for an inexperienced Ukraine defender. Liverpool should also consider a swap for Ya Ya Toure + 30M for masch
