Reina delighted by new contract talk

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina says he is delighted by the news that the club is preparing to offer him a new long-term contract.

Shortly before the Reds’ 3-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday, Reds boss Rafa Benitez revealed that he would be preparing to offer the Reds’ shotstopper a new deal and sees Reina as part of his long-term plan at Anfield.

“My aim is to get a new contract in the future and I want to be here for many years. Apparently the club wants the same,” Reina told the club’s official website.

“It’s already my fifth season here and that says it all, really. One of my daughters is a Scouser. I have some friends here and my wife and kids are happy. I have every reason to stay longer and of course I will.

“Titles are what we are all here for. As a Liverpool player, you have to have these ambitions. Trophies are the most important thing, and the most important one is probably the Premier League.

“Rafa Benitez is building something special here. He proved that when he came here – the club was one thing and now it’s something totally different. We have grown up and we can still grow up a little bit more.”

    Pepe is a top top player. One of the best goalkeepers in the world and seems like a great guy to have in the dressing room. it would be fantastic to get him tied up for a few more years.

    It is worrying though, if the reports are true, that we need to sell Babel or other players to even finance a new contract for Reina. Utter madness!! :-O A club the size of Liverpool having to sell players to even offer existing players a new contract! My god I doubt that even needs to happen at Pompey.

    Anyways Pepe is a top goalkeeper and seems to genuinely love the club as well as being one of the few thats performances have also been quite good this season . lets hope he is here for many many seasons to come.
