Three of this morning’s newspapers will reignite transfer rumours surrounding Liverpool’s intentions to resign Emile Heskey from Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

With Reds boss Rafa Benitez looking to bolster Liverpool’s attacking options after a faltering first half of the season, Heskey’s return to Anfield would be a cheap option for Benitez to consider.

The Guardian, Daily Mirror and Liverpool Daily Post all contain reports this morning linking Benitez with a £3.5million move for Heskey next month.

Andy Hunter of The Guardian writes:

Rafael Benítez has placed Emile Heskey top of his wish list for January despite facing a monumental task to persuade Aston Villa to grant the striker a return to Liverpool.

However the England international has found his way into Martin O’Neil’s first team of late, scoring twice in Villa’s last seven games which has sees them sit 3rd in the Premier League table.

Heskey has been linked several times over the last two years with a return to Liverpool, with the Reds reported to be interested last January transfer window when he left Wigan for Villa.

Heskey scored 60 goals in 223 appearances for Liverpool between 2000 and 2004, after arriving for ££11m from Leicester City – a record for the club at the time. In his first full season (00-01) the club enjoyed huge success with three trophies and Heskey himself scored 23 goals.

bellamy would be sensational!! he, kuyt, risse and gerrard were the key for the champions league campaign in 2007. heskey is completely out of question, he would be as useless as voronin. and I heard about van nilsterooy and I fears he become like shevchenko at Chelsea.

Guys..Rafa is simply looking for someone who torres can play off. it works well in the england team. He can hold the ball up, strong, and aerial threat. I also think Ngog would like a big strong partner along with him as he is still bit light weight. In that sense he would be a good squad player and bring a new dimension. Im realy disapointed that rafa rates elzhar, hes rubbish someone who would serve you a greasy donner kebab after a night out!!

Of the rumours, I would say ruud or bellamy. Bellamy wants to win, and at the moment we need someone like that. He also has been playing on the left at man city and looking pretty tasty. However, he is a nutbag and injury prone. I would rather see us ride the season out and bring back nemeth from loan to get his experience if I had the choices.

And what about the rumours around Pavlyuchenko?? A swap for Babel sounds good to me. He could do the job of playing alongside Torres and also could bring a diferent character to the team and N’Gog should be tested alongside Torres as well. I agree in that case Rafa is failing, he really needs to dare a little more…. YNWA

i honestly dont know.. nistelrooy could be good although he would also need a higher wage… if bellamy is available at a low price, i wont complain.. however, isnt pandev a free agent right now? whats his status?
