Taste of winning was important, says Lucas

Lucas Leiva says Liverpool’s midweek victory over Wigan Atheltic at Anfield was vitally important as the Reds look to get their Premier League season back on track.

Liverpool visit bottom of the table Portsmouth in tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off, having won just four times in the last 16 games.

And Lucas hopes the 2-1 win over Wigan on Wednesday will spur the side on to a successful festive period of results, in which they face Portsmouth, Wolves (Boxing Day) and Aston Villa (28/12).

He said, “We could feel the taste of victory again in midweek which was really important after the defeat by Arsenal.

“It was an important win for us as we want to be as close as possible to the top four. We have to fight for every point and each game left for us will be like a final for the rest of the season.

“We are working really hard and hopefully the second part of the season will be even better. We have to think about each game and win some games in a row. That will give us a lot of confidence and I have confidence we will finish in the top-four.”

    I will always say this that Lucas is still young no experience just see what kind of football he is playing anygame there is a yellow card for him .

    Midfield is a very important position in the game and if we have a none experience than this is what we are playing now .

    I really don’t understand why Benitz like this boy as I don’t see any good game he is playing just makes fould and gives the opposite side to score goals .
    Just look if he is not playing or starting we do play good game . I suggest that some one has to tell Benitz on this .

    Such a comment coming from a player so lazy as Lucas is not only unacceptable but also degrading. I don’t know how on earth could such a player get a first team selection at all times. May be the preferred of Benitez. I do not find lucas of any quality whatsoever he is far too slow for a midfielder and not of quality as mascherano who plays with the heart. Most of the goals we have taken in are due to his laziness on pitch.
