Liverpool’s injury list begins to shorten as Johnson eyes return

Liverpool have been boosted by the news that right-back Glen Johnson could be set to make his come back from injury in the near future, following the likes of Yossi Benayoun and Fernando Torres who also returned from the sidelines against Man City yesterday.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez hopes that the return of his key players will help re-ignite the team’s season and help push for the all-important fourth Champions League spot in the league.

He said, “I think we have enough quality, Yossi Benayoun is coming back, Fernando Torres is coming back, hopefully Glen Johnson will come back in the next week,” said the boss.

“So we are now bringing players back and the competition will be better for us and hopefully we can improve.”

Johnson is unlikely to be involved in the trip to Romania this week but could be in the squad for Sunday’s visit of Blackburn.

The England international’s return will mean Jamie Carragher is free to return to centre-back, meaning Rafa Benitez must opt between Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger alongside him. As well as the option of Sotirios Kyrgiakos who is currently serving a 3 match domestic ban.
