Fernando Torres returns to training in Liverpool

Liverpool have been boosted by the news that Fernando Torres returned to training at Melwood on schedule this morning.

The Reds striker was given extended time off this summer after helping Spain to win the World Cup in South Africa.

Joining him at the club’s training ground this morning were fellow World Cup Finalists Pepe Reina, Ryan Babel and Dirk Kuyt.

Torres has been the subject of intense speculation regarding his future at the club this summer, but is now expected to stay at the club and be part of Roy Hodgson’s early plans for restructuring the club.

Torres is still carrying a groin injury picked up in the closing moments of Spain’s 1-0 win over Holland in the final in Johannesburg last month, and could miss the start of the Premier League season, which begins on Sunday, August 15th – with Liverpool at home to Arsenal.
