Gerrard: Cole gave fans their moneys worth

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has revealed his delight in seeing a fantastic performance from new signing Joe Cole in the midfielder’s first competative game for the club last night.

Cole impressed with his pace and quick feet on the ball as Liverpool beat FK Rabotnicki of Macedonia 2-0 on the night to ensure a 4-0 aggregate win in the Europa League third qualifying round at Anfield.

After the game, Gerrard told press, “Our fans pay good money to see us play good football and I thought Joe was brilliant in his first game at Anfield.

“I’m sure there’s plenty more trickery for our fans to see from him in the future.

“The fans here appreciate Joe is a good player who will create goals and score them. They also saw a different side to his game tonight as his work rate was phenomenal and we need more of that.

“We are hoping this will be a successful season for the club and I’m sure Joe will enjoy it here and have a big part to play.

“I know Joe is enjoying his Liverpool career so far. He wants success and so do we, and hopefully we will get that in the future.

“I thought there was a lot of positives to take from this game and it was good to get the minutes in to get us back to full fitness.”
