Liverpool should complete a £4m deal for Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen soon. Roy Hodgson has confirmed his interest in the player and an LFC representative was in Turin on Tuesday to discuss the move.

Poulsen, 30, will likely replace Javier Mascherano in the Reds midfield once the Argentine completes his move to Italy to join up with former boss Rafa Benitez at Inter Milan.

Hodgson said “If we can sign him from Juventus at a price I consider reasonable, he will be a very good player to bring into our team. Christian is a player I know well, a player whose career I actually kick-started many years ago and I have followed him closely ever since.”

The Liverpool boss brought Poulsen to FC Copenhagen in 2000 and tried to sign him during his time in charge of Fulham. Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claims the player’s agent travelled to Liverpool on Wednesday to discuss personal terms.

Juventus technical director Giuseppe Marotta confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the Danish midfielder last week. Poulsen is an experienced player with over 70 caps for his country.
