Thursday’s Rumours: Two set for Anfield exit, Potters to sign Reds “target”

Amid all the excitment and speculation over Liverpool’s new ownership, it’s easy to lose track of how quickly the end of the transfer window is coming about.

With 26 days to go and a lot of squad strengthening to do, by Roy Hodgson’s own account, it could be a busy few weeks of transfer activity for the Reds.

On the way out in the near future looks to be midfielder Javier Mascherano. Reports today suggest that Inter Milan have opened negotiations with Liverpool over the purchase of the Argentinian midfielder.

Mascherano himself has been learning Italian this summer and is keen to continue his working relationship with former Reds boss Rafa Benitez.

Hodgson admitted yesterday that he has little power to stop the 26-year-old from leaving Merseyside. He said, “If a big offer comes in he wants to go to.”

However, Hodgson looks close to tying up a deal for his replacement – £4million Christian Poulson from Juventus. Click here for more details on that deal.

Also on the way out of Anfield is Philipp Degen, who looks set to confirm a loan deal for the season with Vfb Stuttgart of Germany.

The Swiss defender was told by Hodgson this summer that he is no part of the new plans of the club.

And Nice striker Loic Remy, a reported transfer target of Liverpool’s this summer, looks to be on his way to Stoke City.

Liverpool are in action tonight against FK Rabotnicki of Macedonia, carrying a 2-0 lead into the second leg of the Europa League third qualifying round.

Kick-off at Anfield is 7.45pm and it’s live on ITV4. Check our forums for online streams.
