Hodgson looks to Cole revival

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is hopeful Joe Cole’s winner against Bolton at Anfield on Saturday will be the kick-start to his Anfield career the midfielder needs.

Cole has been dogged by injuries and slow form since his free transfer from Chelsea last summer, struggling to find stride and get going with his season.

But Hodgson believes Cole’s scrambled 92nd minute goal in front of the Kop on New Years’ Day will be just the confidence boost he’s been looking for to send him firing on all cylinders for the Reds.

Ahead of tonight’s Premier League clash away to Blackburn Rovers, Hodgson said, “The goal will do a lot for him, but he’s quite confident at the moment.

“Joe is a very confident player. He always thinks he is playing well, so he doesn’t have any great worries about that side of things.

“But, of course, one of the things he knows he will be criticised for, I guess, is that he doesn’t score enough goals.

“If we think of his time here at Liverpool, we can all think of goal chances which were there to be taken which he didn’t.

“So I’m sure he is delighted to have put that behind him by scoring a very, very important winning goal against Bolton.”

Blackburn vs Liverpool gets underway at 8pm tonight and tickets are still available from the Away End Ticket Office at Ewood Park.
