Line-ups LFC vs Wigan: Suarez starts, Gerrard out

on 12 February, 2011

Luis Suarez makes his first start for Liverpool today as the Reds take on Wigan Athletic at Anfield in the Premier League.

It will be only Suarez’s second appearance for the club since completing a £23million switch from Ajax at the end of January’s transfer window.

Suarez starts up front for Liverpool alongside Dirk Kuyt, with a midfield of Maxi Rodriguez, Raul Meireles, Lucas and Aurelio. Captain Steven Gerrard misses the game through injury, so Jamie Carragher takes the captain’s armband.

Martin Kelly retains his place at right-back, with Glen Johnson at left-back.

Victory for Liverpool today would see a fifth straight consecutive win and the chance to narrow the gap on fifth place Tottenham and fourth placed Chelsea to just three points.

Liverpool: Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Skrtel, Johnson, Maxi, Meireles, Lucas, Aurelio, Kuyt, Suarez. Subs: Gulacsi, Kyrgiakos, Wilson, Poulsen, Pacheco, Jovanovic, Ngog.

Wigan: Al Habsi, Gohouri, Alcaraz, McCarthy, Caldwell, Watson, N’Zogbia, Moses, Rodallega, Diame, Figueroa.
Subs: Pollitt, Di Santo, S.Caldwell, Gomez, Cleverely, McArthur, Stam.

Kick-off at Anfield is 3pm. Check our Liverpool FC forums for links to live internet streams of the game.
