Meireles back sooner than expected

Liverpool will be without creative midfielder Raul Meireles for one to two weeks following his injury picked up during the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Exeter in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

The Portuguese international was forced off during the first half clutching his shoulder, with fears that he had dislocated it.

However, Meireles sustained an injury to his collar bone and should be back in action soon, confirmed Kenny Dalglish this morning.

Dalglish said, “It’s his collar bone that is damaged, but it’s only a week or two. We’ve been quite fortunate with that. A week or two will be the maximum.”

Meireles will miss tomorrow’s Premier League clash at home to Bolton and most likely next week’s internationals. He should be back for Liverpool’s trip to Stoke City on September 10th.
