Reds looking to end year on high against Newcastle

Newcastle (h)Liverpool v Newcastle United
Premier League, Friday 30th December 2011

Liverpool host Newcastle United on Friday night looking to end 2011 on a high and continue their impressive run against the North East side at Anfield.

The last time The Magpies scored at Anfield was back in 2004, the scorer Patrick Kluivert. Since then Liverpool have scored 16 goals without reply – the last three seasons have all seen the Reds run out 3-0 winners.

A similar scoreline would be much welcomed by Liverpool supporters growing frustrated at the lack of goals this season – but they must do so without top scorer Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan is suspended after pleading guilty to the FA misconduct charge following his one fingered gesture to Fulham fans.

Therefore, Andy Carroll is expected to lead the line for Liverpool. He will face his former club for the first time since his £35m move 11 months ago.

Another former Magpie could also come into the side, Craig Bellamy replacing Suarez in the starting eleven. Jose Enrique lines up against his former club for the first time since his move west in the summer.

Meanwhile, Jay Spearing could come into the midfield. He is back available after his sending off at Fulham, but Jordan Henderson was given the nod in the centre alongside Charlie Adam against Blackburn.

Possible LFC 11: Reina; Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique; Kuyt, Spearing, Adam, Downing, Bellamy, Carroll.
