Dirk Kuyt came off the bench to score a dramatic winner for Liverpool and send the Reds through to the fifth round of the FA Cup at the expense of Man Utd.

Anfield was a cauldron of intense atmosphere as it gave a hostile reception to Utd defender Patrice Evra.

Daniel Agger had given Liverpool a first half lead with a solid header from a corner, but that had been cancelled out shortly before half time when Valencia took advantage of some sloppy defending from Jose Enrique to cross the ball in for Park to equalise.

Kuyt’s goal was simple but clinical. Pepe Reina‘s goal kick was flicked on by Andy Carroll, and Kuyt finished expertly and low through De Gea’s legs.

Liverpool: Reina, Enrique, Skrtel, Agger, Kelly, Downing, Carragher (Kuyt 63), Gerrard (Bellamy 72), Maxi (Adam 63), Henderson, Carroll.
Subs not used: Doni, Johnson, Coates, Spearing.

Man Utd: De Gea, Evra, Smalling, Evans, Rafael, Carrick, Park, Scholes (Hernandez 76), Giggs, Valencia, Welbeck.
Subs not used: Ferdinand, Berbatov, Fabio, Lindegaard, Pogba, Keane.

well done lads! - King Kenny should not start with a defensive minded team – last 15 min were abusolutely superb!

Another great win, if we can beat these 2 teams as we have then in theory we can beat anybody, the team finally appears to be finding it’s feet, I would still like to see an injection of pace added in this window, but we’re heading in the right direction for sure, an unselfish assist by Carroll today, pity his header hit the framework. YNWA!!

    • Bill&Bob

Agreed. Carroll had a couple of good knock ons and goes to show why he needs to be coupled up. Reminds of the old Toshack and Keegan days.

King Kenny wins tactic battle against Fergie, proves the point stick with the King and give him time and the league will be ours once more within a couple of years at most, and maybe a couple of cups this year what more could anyone expect, we  all have to BELIEVE   Y.N.W.A

      spot on

A well deserved win, little creative talent, but solid hard work paid the dvidends. They are not out of the woods as both City and Utd are attacking teams so we dont need to break them down. Hard work alone cannot beark down the Fullhams and Boltons of the world when they play 11 defenders. That is when we definitely pace and talent, which both Utd and City still enjoy. Either way, we are all happy to celebrate two great achievments. Bravo

superb again ! never felt threatened with utd s posession thought downing turned up at last and really pleased with Andy Carroll too , glad we have a lot of games against bigger clubs that we can expect a game of football against, teams that go looking for a win, wasnt the slightest bit surprised to win both games, two smaller more defensive teams might still have been a problem though, still lets get back in the champions league find a new fowler or rush in the summer and show a whole new generation just exactly who Kenny Dalglish is !

  • Speednut

I looked at the replays and both kyut and carrol were offside and nobody saw it.. Happy days.. Liverpool have so much self belief that other clubs.. Go the Kop!!

    • scouser3

      no,

    • Galactico

You can’t be offside from a goal kick mate
