Liverpool to play at Fenway Park on US tour

Liverpool are to tour the USA this summer and play at the home of their ownership group, Fenway Park, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

Fenway Park: The historic home of baseball’s Red Sox

They will face Italian side AS Roma – whose club president, Thomas DiBenedetto, is part of the FSG ownership group.

A Roma spokesperson said “We are planning a tour of the United States in the summer, and my idea is that it will be a tour like no other done before. We will make other announcements, but we do not want to get ahead of ourselves”.

The Boston Globe reports “The game would be part of a tournament involving Chelsea FC and, possibly, Celtic FC. Matches will also be held in Chicago (Comiskey Park or Wrigley Field) and New York (Yankee Stadium).”

Update: We are now told the potential date of Liverpool vs AS Roma at Fenway is July 25th.

The last time Liverpool toured the US, in 2004, they played Roma at Giants Stadium in New Jersey.

Almost a year ago we reported how LFC chairman Thomas Werner had hinted at the plans for a US tour and a game at Fenway Park.

It is quite plausible that Liverpool will incorporate the match into the marketing of their new kit from US based Warrior Sports.
