Video: Gerrard and Bellamy goals see Liverpool to League Cup final

Liverpool 2-2 Manchester City (3-2 on aggregate)

League Cup Semi-Final, Second Leg; January 25th 2012

Craig Bellamy was inspirational as Liverpool saw off Man City to progress to the League Cup Final and secure their first appearance at Wembley since 1996.

A Steven Gerrard penalty and Bellamy’s second half goal gave Kenny Dalglish’s side a 2-2 draw in front of an electric Anfield against Premier League leaders City.

The Reds will now face Cardiff in the Final on February 26th.

well played lads wembley here we come happy days

This would seem a good time to ask the question thats been on my mind since the end of last season.

Supposing we dont do an Arsenal and do win the cup. Liverpool are then in the Europa League. We don’t make 4th so after a season of no European Football are fans happy to be back in Europe or is it Champions League or not worth bothering about otherwise in your opinion.

Personally I always like th uefa cup – it was the first thing I saw then win in person in 1976. Being in European competition raises and helps keep status of club around the world.  Its possibly better to blood inexperienced players in the early rounds of this competition as it is in the Carling and who cares if it is Channel 5 Thursday ITS EUROPEAN COMPETITION and still harder to win than the Champions League (meeting Barcelona excepted)

I say embrace the uefa cupeuropa league and enjoy it. Otherwise why try to win the CarlingFA Cup.

    Interested to hear others thoughts

Personally I think it is vital for Liverpool to play in a European competition so I’m rather excited about the chance we might be back in the UEFA cup next season. I would of course prefer the CL :)

      Karl
We must always strive to be in the Champions League because that is the worlds best league and we pit ourselves against the very best because we pride ourselves in being or aspiring to be the best. When we are in the UEFA I only view it as a money making exercise but when we are in the CL its a challenge to test us and to see just how good we are in terms of physical ability and most of all tactical astuteness.  I actually get a bigger kick out of the tactical game than the physical part of it.  I love to see a manager outwit another so called superior team.  Barcelona are monsters at the moment but imagine if we played them, the most tactical and skilful team in the world and we beat them.  It would be like some sort of drug trip for days after to a real football fan.  but for that exact same reason we should never underestimate an underdog (i.e. Cardiff) because the same reasons will apply to their mentality against us. If you think you are the best you start believing you are the best and pretty soon you will be the best.
Embracing a positive attitude is good Karl so why not go all the way and settle for nothing but the very best.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We should just give Bellamy the Fans Player of the Year award right now.

Well done, lads. The things Kenny said after the Bolton game have needed saying for the last three years because the players have been shielded from criticism for too long. He hasn’t got every signing and tactic right since he came back, but at the end of the day he is a proper (and still very good manager), who is in the job to win trophies not plaudits and we are lucky to have him. Given time, he may just take us back to the promised land, but even if he doesn’t quite manage it, I am certain he will leave his successor a much shorter route to glory than the one he inherited.

well done to the entire squad for getting us to Wembley. Now we have to do something we haven’t done in a while, win at Anfield on Saturday! We can do it … the belief is there … just need to be positive and not give United a chance,we have to be on them pressing … need good performances from our midfield, that’s were we have been lacking and Downing has to come good and Carroll if he starts.I believe the Bolton result was a one off…players minds were on last nights game, they got over it and we should look forward to beating Utd …another Anfield electric atmosphere is needed … good luck … YNWA

Did you see Kenny’s relief at the end of the game and the tears in his eyes, he loves Liverpool so much we are privileged to have a man who feels so much about our club as he does and all the contribution and sacrifice he has given over the years.  Fergie had a bad start to his career at man untd and look what he did.  CMon everyone get behind Kenny.  JH you are superb keep supporting him at least you listen to the fans unlike the other two ego trips before you, you know that deep down the real fans own this club and that you are the guardian just like Kenny is.  The spirit of Bill and Bob are looking down on you Kenny things are going to work out dont you worry.

Let’s deny the wancs a trip to Wembley by dumping them out the FA cup, ensuring they win nada this season. Identical lineup excluding Henderson for Maxi please KK. Shame its not another night game eh? The atmosphere @ Anfield was like that of a Euro tie. Once this games out the way we can concentrate exclusively on 4th, which isn’t out of the question just yet, however if we don’t secure it it’s not the end of the world, Europa often unearths some unknown talent, so Commoli can scout some non Brits!

Well done KD! Keep the tactic & momentum going especially against lower team.
I’v said many times, Bellamy is the right man for the job. Now let’s get Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Milan.
We need two wingers and world class midfielder.
Thanks KD, u cheers my day!

superb ! just what everyone needed the players and the fans were magnificent, the saurez thing hasnt been mentioned in the media for a couple of weeks now , everyone is back saying what a superb job kenny is doing, bellamy was magnificent hendo has started to arrive at anfeild at last adam was into everything so hopefully the doubters and naysayers that have been a disgrace to themselves and the club on this site in the last few weeks can now get on board and we can give united a dose of the same and go out to make an all out assault on a champions league place, this great club this great manager and these great fans dont belong in the europa league , i for one dont fear barcelona !
