Gerrard’s starting place tonight will cause concern for Liverpool after the Reds’ skipper played the full Carling Cup Final, extra-time, penalties and all on Sunday and with Liverpool facing Arsenal in the early lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Craig Bellamy captains Wales tonight in the Gary Speed memorial match – a friendly against Costa Rica at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, and Jordan Henderson skippers the England Under-21s in a friendly against Belgium Under-21s at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium.
