Maxi: “I want more minutes”

Liverpool midfielder Maxi Rodriguez has admitted he may have to leave the club this summer as he seeks more regular football.

Following a stunning end to last season, that saw him score two hat-tricks, the 31 year old found himself out of favour after the summer arrivals of Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson – despite the three of them struggling to perform.

Maxi has had just seven Premier League starts this season, and 18 appearances in total.

He’s stil managed to get six goals – the best goals to games ratio of any Liverpool player this season.

The Argentine, who joined from Atletico Madrid in 2010, said;

“I’m not playing the amount of minutes that I want to play.

“When I play, I take my chances and do a good job. I score goals.

“I don’t know if I will stay for next season, that’s the truth. I will decide at the end of the season.

“All the people here have treated me well, but I want more minutes.”

Recent reports have suggested he will be available for transfer this summer.

he wont be in Kenny’s plans for next season. hence the lack of games this season

He  deserved more playing time, will  be sorry to see him leave

Great player and it is a pity we didn’t play him more. They should have started him and used Hendo or Downing as HIS subs, not the other way around.

Maybe he will stay now….depends on who we get as manager

Its sad to see maxi not being used properly when the players playing in front of him have been underperforming all season (henderson, downing esp). Kenny has shown his blind faith in british players (carra over coates when coates needs to be bedded in slowly and henderson getting the nod ahead of kuyt and maxi when henderson plays crap)

    More minutes? Switch to O2…

  • Magic2ouch

Henderson and Downing in particular were very poor yesterday. And had maxi and kuyt played instead maybe we would have had 3-4 more.

Henderson played well yesterday, kept the ball moving and switched the play when  needed.  His last few games in the center of the park has show he definitley has the ability, and as continues to develop both physically and mentally (which I feel he has done so this season) will prove to be a very good player for us in the future. Our role as us fans back him and encourage him and not make him a scapegoat.

only kenny knows why he doesnt get the minutes, i’d leave too

Maxi’s treatment by Kenny is really shameful. He’s a fine footballer, and always delivers a good performance, be it goals or assists. I will be sad to see him leave. And what’s the point in having such a good player and buying some extremely expensive deadwood, and then having to play them because of their price tags….
Really, when I think of all the poor decisions made by Kenny, and which resulted in us being where we are in the league, it makes me sick.
When the team wins, it’s DESPITE, not BECAUSE…

He’s been used sparingly this term, when others selected ahead of him haven’t warranted their place in the starting XI. Maybe Kenny has someone in mind to fill his No.11 shirt – Jackson Martinez, Rasmus Elm, Drenthe? – & didn’t want to embarassingly strip him of it. If so, adios Maximiliano !!!

Cant say I blame him.  He’s done what any player on the fringe should do, he’s bided his time, tried to remain patient, worked hard in training to be ready when chances come, and when he has been given a run out he’s done well & had a really good run of goals to games going.  When someone on the fringe does those thing’s & see’s themselves dropped straight away again, even when there are first team regulars who are performing poorly….well it can’t do wonders for your motivation.

He’s full of intelligent movement on the pitch, makes brilliantly timed late runs into the box, and has a cool head when it comes to finishing.

Got to be even more irritating when you see certain players getting regular starts when they are usually performing poor to mediocre.

Very good player. Scratch my head when he doesn’t play. Knows how to score and a good asset. Hope he stays. Don’t want to see him go. Will have a busy season next season and need the entire squad. He is a wise ole fox in front of goal.

  • Rederik

Apart from Gerrard and Suarez most of the team seem to have problems hitting the back of the net so I can,t see why Maxi dosn,t get more matches as he is one of our players who remembers the ball is supposed to go between the posts.

Maxi is a great team guy, something we dont seem to have enough of in this squad. but lets not forget that before the stunning end to last season for him there were more clear cut misses than makes. he was an out of form midfielder looking for minutes before he turned it on last yr.
that being said,i like him as a player and he seems a good guy off the field as well. but with the signing of Rasmus Elm today it seems that Maxi and Kuyt and Cole and Aqua are going to be leaving…hopefully they take Adam with them.

  • Timmy

Daglish is a RACIST….I ve always said it……….Maxi, you too much..he cant do away with players such as Agger and Co….he wld ve done it….

    • Scottie

If he is a racist then why does he start Glen Johnson and Luis Suarez? You are not only absurd but a buffoon.

  • Ash Aminy

It’s surprising how not a single person has anything negative to say about him, the guy didn’t get first team play in the Argentinian squad for no reason! he has great awareness on the pitch, and if you’ve paid attention, every time he has played with Suarez, they’ve done great together (same south American wavelength?!). I honestly believe that if those 2 got more time together on the pitch they could be as dangerous as Tevez and Aguero are for MC. He is a team player and a great finisher.
Yes he has missed chances but if a player doesn’t get enough playing time of course their going to get rusty like Dirk digler has.
The way I see it, he has done a hell of a lot better than Downing who puts 150 crosses every game with only 2 successful ones, and when he sees Downing getting picked over him he will obviously be asking questions and be disappointed.
I believe in King Kenny like none else, but, I also believe that he is making a couple of mistakes. after all, even Kings make mistakes!

Ash I’m not trying to sound rude but can you please clarify your comment. You start off by saying that you find it “…surprising how not a single person has anything negative to say about him…” and then you go on to say nothing but positives about him. I’m a tad confused on the point you were trying to make.
