6 inspiring quotes from new LFC boss, Brendan Rodgers

By on May 31, 2012

The imminent appointment of Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager has been met with a lot of support from the Reds faithful, but also a few puzzled expressions and outbursts of discontent.

We hope that these six quotes from Rodgers over the last few years of his managerial career at Watford, Reading and Swansea will inspire those small number of fans currently not backing Rodgers, to back our manager.

Welcome to Liverpool FC, Brendan Rodgers.

“My big dream is to be a highly successful football manager whose methods provide innovation for youth and senior footballers and coaches.”

“If you are better than your opponent with the ball you have a 79% chance of winning the game.”

“Our idea is to pass teams to a standstill so they can no longer come after you. Eventually you wear them down.”

“I started coaching for one reason and that was to make a difference for people, not just as footballers but as human beings. I’m learning lessons all the time.”

“My template for everything is organisation. With the ball you have to know the movement patterns, the rotation, the fluidity and positioning of the team. When we have the football everybody’s a player.”

“We [Rodgers and Jose Mourinho] had a similar philosophy – we believed in the passion for football and the organisation. And he worked at a big club before becoming a manager.”

let’s give Brendan our full support…. a lot of very good managers had low level experience before taking on big clubs…and the biggest was Mr Bill Shankly…. this appointment is as truly inspiring!!!! Welcome Brendan….YNWA

    • Edso

Couldn’t agree more will be a great Liverpool manager

      • Always intelligent

How do you KNOW Edso because he wasn’t a great Reading one?

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1297406230 Kez Shanks

don’t think he had the right style for Reading imo. He has done well with Swansea so we shall see

          • Intelligent Man

Surely every great managers “style” should be “to win” no? So what went wrong at Reading, did they want to lose? But Rodgers was doing that at Reading already!
I look forward to an in depth answer all about “style” that enables your confusing comment to become at least partly credible.

“To win” was his intention not his style, it’s also the intention of everyone I’ve ever heard of in football. Rodgers style is a quick moving, short passing and possession focused style of play with which the team exhaust the opposition and find openings in their defence. The best example of this quick moving style would be the Spanish national team as well as Barcelona. It did not work at Reading however, possibly because it was too different from what they were used to. Possibly because the players didn’t buy into it. Probably a combination of the two and other reasons.
At Swansea he took over from Roberto Martinez whose style was very similar. The players quickly bought into this style and as a result Swansea rose quickly through the Championship, then Premier League.
            Good enough explanation for you?

    • Intelligent always

Lots of bad ones did to – so your point is…..?

  • ash aminy

I am a lot more happier with Rodgers that Martinez. I guess it’s because of his presence, his desire for success and what he’s done overbroad. I’m sure that with the right support and time he can lay the foundations for a new era for our club. Welcome to Anfield. YNWA.

    • Permanently Intelligent

Ash – What has Rodgers done “overbroad” exactly that impresses you so much?

  • Intelligent

Actions speak louder than words fo course. Swanea’s first away win came halfway through a season.
Reading said he wasn’t good enough for them and sacked him.

  • BALLAN

Why a new era set to begin at Liverpool….Rodgers not only has the talent but also King Kenny’s look…when Ian Rush left Liverpool for Juventus, his look a like Aldrigh was brought in and became a legend and now King was replaced by his look a like Rodgers and he is destined for greatness with our mighty Reds. Raise….Reds….YWNW…WELCOME RODGERS….BE THE BEST!

Welcome Brenden Rodgers to our LIverpool home. Everybody should give him there support he as a long hard job ahead, but i think he could become a great manager for LFC. Im looking forward to this new era, i have a good feeling about Brendens appointment. So come on lets give him are full support and patience any Liverpool player or manager deserves, confidence breaths confidence and with a show of support for everybody concerned with LFC will only bring good vibes for the club we all love. LFC4ever.

I really wish these so called “liverpool fans” would stop moaning about a manager they obviously know nothing about, especially given he hasn’t even managed his first game yet and they are already slagging him off. He finished his playing career at the age of 20, an since then he has been coaching. Just because he got sacked from Reading doesn’t make him a bad manager. Rafa got sacked from his first job in management aswel, so is he a bad manager! If you haven’t got anything positive to say, I suggest you don’t say anything.

    • Butragenio

The can only be evaluated at the end of the season. Till then we must all get behind him.

  • NDLFC

Lot’s of intelligent people on here… back the manager, without our backing it’ll be very difficult for him to suceed & I’m sure we all want sucess

  • Jordan

Just please bring Sinclair, Dyer and Allen.
    — Adam needs to pull up his socks and get rid of the likes of Hendo, Downing (useless would like a straight swap for Dyer or Sinclair.), Spearing.
    — Rodgers will have the team playing the beautiful game. Im extremely excited. I cant see Carroll playing a big part in “The Beautiful Game” however. Shelvey will be bombing it this season I expect big things! Very excited. Best of luck Rodgers and Liverpool. Y.N.W.A JF96. CMON!!!!

Welcome to Liverpool FC Brendan Rodgers you will have the support of most of the fans, there will be some who will question your appointment, they will of course start spouting off if you don’t get off to a flyer, ignore them, keep faith in your philosophies. True Reds will support you through good and bad times, as Bill Shankly once said “If you can’t support when we lose, don’t support us when we win or draw” good luck YNWA

  • Nick

Can everyone stop saying how ‘great’ he was at Swansea, please! What did they win? Zilch. He took them to mid table mediocrity. And that is exactly where this clown is gonna take us. Bad appointment. Really bad. Only appointing Rafa would have been worse than this.

    • mick the kidder

Why so much negativity? Its not right to judge without having any grounds to so do you not think?. If Brendan Rodgers is given a chance to prove himself he could be the best manager LFC have appointed for quite some time. Be carefull what you say because to prejudge isin`t always the best thing to do, you might end up with a big red face. People should get behind Brenden Rodgers 100% and show some true support.

      • Nick

how can we replace the King with a no-name buffoon with no track record and no pedigree and no history of winning anything. I’m waiting for him to fill which he surely will.

    • Ben

      What a ridiculous comment.

      • Nick

the only thing that’s ridiculous is the appointment of this clown

Brendon Rogers yesssss, this guy has exactly what is needed to take us to levels a new within pastures recognised in this new era of football, in Brendon we trust, he is going to be a legend at Anfield, a Guru of scientific football management and psychology? At last we now have the right man in charge to bring new success and titles for many years to come. He has Shanklys discipline, the unexpected tactical changes as Ramsey, and the cheek, wisdom and tenacity of clough? YNWA
