Reds won’t appeal Agger red card

Liverpool have decided not to appeal against Daniel Agger’s red card in the 3-0 defeat at West Brom on Saturday and accepted a one-match ban for the defender.

Agger had hoped that the club would appeal the decision after Phil Dowd gave him his marching orders for bringing down Shane Long in the penalty area shortly into the second half at the Hawthorns.

However, should Liverpool have appealed and lost the appeal, Agger’s suspension would have been doubled to two games.

He will miss next Sunday’s Premier League clash at Anfield against Manchester City. Jamie Carragher and Sebastian Coates are in contention to fill in.
