Liverpool team news for Europa clash

Liverpool look set to name a strong line-up for Thursday night’s Europa League clash at home to Anzhi Makhachkala (8.05pm).

The Reds suffered a disappointing defeat to Udinese in their last Europa League game and need a win to get back on track in the competition.

A win tonight could see the Reds hit top spot in Group A.

But with a Merseyside Derby on Sunday, many were expecting another weakened line-up tonight from Brendan Rodgers.

However, Reds assistant manager Colin Pascoe has hinted there will be no expenses spared in the team selection this evening. Especially given Anzhi’s strong side that includes Samuel E’to up front.

“Anzhi are a strong unit. They are a big team with big players,” Pascoe told reporters.

“We have swapped and changed things around a bit before but, looking at this game, it is very important for us. We will pick a stronger team than we played against Udinese.”

“It is a difficult situation,” he added. “After Anzhi we have got games against Everton, Swansea, Newcastle, Anzhi away and then Chelsea.

“We will have to mix things up depending on the games. But we want to win this one. It is as simple as that.

“Anzhi have lost one in 21 games overall this season. There’s only one way they are going to go and that’s Champions League.

“It’s a strong group but if you want to do well in every competition you have to beat the best teams.”

Liverpool vs Anzhi gets underway at 8.05pm tonight and is live on ITV4.
