Pepe Reina injury latest

Pepe Reina should be fit to start in Liverpool’s crunch Premier League clash against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Spaniard has been out of action since picking up a hamstring injury whilst on international duty last week, forcing him out of Liverpool’s 1-0 victories over Reading and Anzhi this week.

But Reina should step back into goal for this Sunday’s Merseyside Derby, with Brad Jones dropping back down to the bench.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers gave an update on his goalkeeper. “Pepe is back in training,” he said. “So that’s good news. He’s working well and we’ll assess him over the next 24 to 48 hours.”

Meanwhile Rodgers praised the efforts of understudy Jones to pull off two clean sheets in Reina’s absence.

“Brad’s been excellent,” Rodgers added. “The goalkeepers join in a lot of our work in training. They get involved in a lot of the possession work. Brad’s temperament has been excellent. I think he has come in and looked a real presence in the goal.

“The nature of his game has been good and when he has been asked to make a save he has. So I’ve been really pleased with Brad since he has come in and played a number of our Europa League games and done very well. You need that competition with goalkeepers.”
