Match Summary

Liverpool’s hopes of progressing past the group stage of the Europa League took a blow on Thursday night when they went down 1-0 to Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia.

An under strength Liverpool side faced the cash-rich club, with ten first team players rested ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash at Chelsea.

Lacina Traore looped the ball over Brad Jones on the stroke of half time to score the only goal in a game dominated by Liverpool’s tiki-taka posession-based football.

But again, this possession amounted to nothing and chances were few and far between.

After four games, Liverpool sit second in group A on six points, level with third placed Young Boys and one point off top spot, where Anzhi sit. Udinese’s hopes look slim – the Italian club have four points.
