Suarez and Gerrard miss Russian trip

Liverpool will not take key duo Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard on their Europa League trip to face Anzhi in Russia this Thursday night.

With Brendan Rodgers’ side facing a tough test away at Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, the Liverpool Echo claims the Northern Irishman has prioritised the domestic game.

The Echo say that victory against Anzhi at Anfield in the last Europa match, coupled with Young Boys’ surprise defeat of Udinese – two results which put Liverpool top of the group – have persuaded Rodgers to prioritise the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Gerrard and Suarez had been rested for last Wednesday’s League Cup clash with Swansea City at Anfield, but were called upon at half-time when the Reds went 1-0 down, eventually crashing out of the competition 3-1.

Anzhi vs Liverpool gets underway at 5pm on Thursday, 8th November 2012.
