It will be Benitez’s first return to the club as the manager of another teamsince he was dismissed by a turbulant ownership and club management regime in the summer of 2010.

Benitez has made no secret that he still holds a strong affection for Liverpool in his heart, relocating his family to Merseyside shortly after his departure from Anfield.

“Liverpool is where my family live now,” the Spaniard said in the Daily Mail. ‘I have been there for six years and have very good memories.

“I cannot hide that I am really pleased to be going there to see a lot of old friends.”

However, despite being vilified by the Chelsea fans since his arrival at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, Benitez has lead the Blues to third in the League and Europa League and FA Cup Semi-Finals.

This weekend he hopes victory over the Reds will cement Chelsea‘s Champions League qualification spot.

He added, “The main thing is to stay in the top three and what I want is to win at Liverpool.

“And after, I wish them all the best and if they can win all their games until the end of the season, that will be fantastic.

“But as a professional, I am sure they will try and win and we will try win.”

Liverpool vs Chelsea gets underway at 4pm on Sunday, 21st April 2013.
