Liverpool FC confirm Kolo Toure signing

kolotoureLiverpool have confirmed they will complete the signing of Manchester City defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer on July 1st 2013.

Toure, 32, has signed a two-year contract after completing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the club.

The Ivorian international has won Premier League titles with Arsenal and Man City, as well as making over 100 appearances for his country.

A statement from Liverpool Football Club reads:

Liverpool Football Club can today announce they have agreed a deal in principal with Kolo Toure to join the club on July 1.

The powerful defender will be registered as a Reds player when his current deal with Manchester City expires.

The statement also points out that Toure will become first Ivorian to play for Liverpool.

Toure isn’t expected to be a first-choice partner for Daniel Agger, but will add some depth and experience in the central defence position, with question marks over the futures of Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates.

The Liverpool Echo report that Kyriakos Papadopoulos remains the top target.

Welcome to Liverpool, Kolo!
