Liverpool Ladies 4-1 Birmingham City Ladies
Saturday, 9th June 2013
Liverpool Ladies stayed top of the F.A. Women’s Super League going into the two-month summer break with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Birmingham City on Saturday evening.
In lovely warm temperatures at the Halton Stadium in Widness, 450 fans turned out to see Matt Beard’s high flying Ladies cement their place as league leaders.
Natasha Dowie went through on goal on 15 minutes, seeing her shot rebound off the post, but Nicole Rosler put in the rebound.
Some sloppy Reds defending let in Birmingham’s Kerys Harrop to grab an equaliser for the visitors just ten minutes later. The tall City defender expertly lobbed the ball over a number of Reds defenders crowding the box from close range.
Liverpool regained their lead just before half time when Lucy Bronze powerfully headed home a corner.
Birmingham started the second half brightly, but it was Liverpool who struck next to extend their lead thanks to Dowie deflecting in an ambitious long-range effort from the outstanding Fara Wiliams.
Minutes later Rosler got on the scoresheet again, confidently finishing in a one-on-one position.
The victory follows a run of impressive form for the Reds, who beat Merseyside rivals Everton 4-1 earlier in the week.
Player of the match: Fara Williams
