The transfer window is not even open yet, but that doesn’t stop LFC transfer rumours from flying around, hitting the glass and sliding back off again.

Today the newspapers and rumour mill are suggesting the Reds are closing in on two deals, to add to the (almost done) signings of Iago Aspas and Kolo Toure.

Highly rated Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be set to begin personal negotiations with the Liverpool, according to reports in several papers.

Mkhitaryan scored a record 25 goals in the Ukranian Premier League last season and is thought to be available to leave for around £20million.

Meanwhile up in the North East, the Sunderland Echo reports that the Reds are set to agree a £10million fee for Black Cats goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet has been linked with a move to Anfield for several weeks and recently revealed his itching for more than what Sunderland offer.

The Sunderland Echo report today (Saturday):

Yesterday, the Merseysiders were prepared to go to £9m, but Sunderland are holding out for a fee in excess of £10m for a player Steve Bruce paid £2m for, three years ago this week.

Now it looks like Liverpool have accepted Sunderland’s valuation.

The increased speculation linking Mignolet with a move to Merseyside will no doubt cast doubt on the future of Pepe Reina at Liverpool.

Although Reina has said he has no plans to leave Brendan Rodgers’ side, Barcelona are thought to be monitoring him very closely as Victory Valdes prepares to leave the Nou Camp.

And the Daily Mail report today that Liverpool have ended their interest in Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos. The Greek international has injury concerns and, according to the Mail, the Reds aren’t willing to meet the German club’s £19million asking price.

This week Liverpool have also been “given the green light” to go ahead and sign 20-year-old Sevilla striker Luis Alberto.
