Incredible scenes as Liverpool FC receive a heroes welcome in Indonesia

Jakarta is a sea of Red and White for the arrival of Liverpool on their pre-season tour.

Thousands of fans have welcomed Liverpool to Indonesia on their pre-season tour, which will see them play a friendly in Jakarta on Saturday.

Brendan Rodgers has taken his squad on a tour to Indonesia, then onto Melbourne Victory in Australia, and finally Thailand, just weeks before the new Premier League season gets underway.

As the video above shows, the players of the club on their coach were given a heroes reception on their way into the city for a series of promotional and training events ahead of the weekend’s game.

It is the club’s first ever visit to Indonesia and the video was shot close to Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport in the capital.

Liverpool trained today in temperatures nearing 40°C. Fitness training in such temperatures is expected to help the players prepare for the more cooling English temperatures ahead of the winter season.

Midfielder Lucas, no stranger to the hot climates of Brazil, told the club’s official tour website, “It’s very warm and very humid, but I think it’s a good place for us to improve our fitness level. We shouldn’t complain because we’ll have cold weather for a long time when we get back to England!

“It’s been a good pre-season so far. A very hard first two weeks and then on this tour we’ve got the same mentality because we want to start the season very well.”

Indonesia XI vs Liverpool gets underway at 2.30pm UK time (8.30pm local time) on Saturday, 20th July 2013.
