“We’ve done unbelievable to get him,” Clarke said after Ibe’s debut for The Blues against Blackpool – a match that saw Ibe hauled down by fellow Liverpool loanee Jack Robinson, earning the left-back his third red card of the season.

“I’ve got to thank Brendan Rodgers. I’ve pestered him to get him. There were so many other clubs in for him,” explained Clarke.

“I am so excited by Jordan and what he now gives us.

“We saw glimpses of his skill in his first training session with us and he showed a bit more in the game. He seems so confident in his own ability. He has great power and pace. He is a real asset.”

Ibe, 18, will spend the rest of the campaign at the Championship side and is highly-rated at Anfield. He made his debut as a surprise starter on the final day of last season aged just 17.
