The Reds will line-up in Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2009/10, when they were knocked out in the group stages.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are guaranteed a top three finish in the Premier League meaning they won’t face a qualifying match and their first game back will be the first group game on September 16th or 17th.

The draw for the group stages takes place in Monaco on August 28th.

Liverpool will be ranked in pot three for the draw, ranked 32nd in UEFA’s coefficient ranking after five years out of the Champions League and a season without any European football.

The worst case scenario is that Liverpool would face Bayern and Juventus or Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain, with the best case scenario being Benfica or Porto from pot one, with the likes of FC Basle or Zenit St Petersburg from pot two, as explained by The Telegraph.

Here are the six group stage matchday dates:

Matchday 1 16–17 September 2014
Matchday 2 30 September–1 October 2014
Matchday 3 21–22 October 2014
Matchday 4 4–5 November 2014
Matchday 5 25–26 November 2014
Matchday 6 9–10 December 2014

The 2014/15 Champions League Final will take place in Berlin at the Olympiastadion, on 6th June.
