LFC Transfer Rumour Round-Up: Griezmann, Marshall, Schmelzer and more

Henry Jackson (@OnFootballTweet) looks at which players have been tipped to join the Reds the last seven days, and how likely a move to Anfield would be for each player.

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN

The 23-year-old Frenchman has had a superb season at Real Sociedad, scoring 20 goals in 46 games, and the Reds are reportedly interested, according to The Mirror.

The winger is a terrific prospect- he could well start for France at this summer’s World Cup- and his technical excellence and pace are exactly the kind of attributes Brendan Rodgers likes in an attacking player.

Paris Saint-Germain appear most likely the sign him, but the fact that Liverpool have now guaranteed Champions League football next season certainly gives them a chance of acquiring Griezmann’s signature.

ROSS BARKLEY

The Daily Star reported last week that Rodgers was willing to break Liverpool’s transfer record- currently held by Andy Carroll (£35m)- and submit a £38m bid for the young Everton star.

While Barkley would be a fantastic signing by the club- he and Raheem Sterling are the most exciting young English players of their generation- the chance of Roberto Martinez allowing him to move to their Merseyside rivals is almost unthinkable.

CHRISTIAN CAPONE

The Atalanta creative midfielder is just 15 years of age, and is seen as one of the brightest talents in Italian football.

According to The Mirror, Capone is interested in a move to the Premier League rather than staying in Serie A, and Rodgers has had scouts looking as him for a while now.

It seems likely that the youngster will make the move to Anfield, but under current regulations he won’t be able to sign until April 2015 when he turns 16.

DAVID MARSHALL

The Cardiff goalkeeper has, in the eyes of many, been the standout ‘keeper in the Premier League this season.

The Metro is reporting that, with Brad Jones providing fairly weak competition for Simon Mignolet as the Reds’ number one, a £6m bid for the 29-year-old is imminent.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side facing possible relegation, a number of clubs will look to sign Marshall should they go down. The lure of possible Champions League football would surely tempt the Scotland international.

MARCEL SCHMELZER

The Borussia Dortmund and Germany left-back could well join Liverpool in the summer, according to German publication Bild.

The 26-year-old, who has 16 international caps to date, is reportedly one of Rodgers’ main targets to fill a position that they often struggled with ever since John Arne Riise left in 2008.

With Aly Cissokho not good enough, Jose Enrique possibly set to leave and Jon Flanagan still maturing, the signing of Schmelzer would be a shrewd piece of business.

With Dortmund living hugely in the shadow of Bayern Munich these days, the defender may feel it’s time for a new challenge.

CRISTIAN TELLO

The speedy Barcelona winger has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield on loan in the past, but The Mirror are now reporting that a permanent deal could be wrapped up at the end of the current campaign.

The 22-year-old is a very exciting young player, but Barcelona’s incredible quality in attacking areas has made it hard for him to break into the side on a regular basis.

He would cost around £12m, but this is reported by John Cross of ‘Luis Suarez to Arsenal‘ fame so a pinch of salt with this one.
